In-Kind Donations Needed for Hurricane Sandy

Update 11/6/12:
Our friends at Goodwill NYNJ are assisting in the Sandy Relief efforts! They have joined forces with NYC Emergency Response Office and Modell's Sporting Goods to collect donations and help with relief efforts. They are also assisting Red Cross in collecting blood donations at their NJ Headquarter in Harrison.

Volunteers are still needed to help sort, pack and deliver donations that are coming in via Goodwill! Please contact Jose Medellin at jmedellin@goodwillnynj.org to volunteer. Volunteers are needed in the following locations:
47-47 Van Dam Street, Long Island City, NY 11101
4-21 27th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11102
400 Supor Blvd.,
Harrison NJ 07029

Update 11/5/12:
Thank you to everyone who stopped by this weekend and dropped off donations! We filled up an entire cargo van and took all the donations to Staten Island (168 New Dorp Lane) where they were distributing supplies to the hardest hit area of Staten Island, New Dorp.

We continue to receive emails asking about drop off locations so will try and keep an updated list here of resources available to those who would like to help. Please post on our Facebook Page if you know of other resources that would be helpful.

Dear ClosetDash Shop Community,

On Monday October 29, Hurricane Sandy passed through the East Coast and left several cities in complete ruin, leaving millions without power, stranded at shelters and in need of supplies. Several people I know personally have been hit by this storm and left without power, and in some cases, flooded out of their homes, without any sense of when they can return.

I'm personally reaching out to all of you to ask for some help to assist in the recovery efforts of Hurricane Sandy. We've always been such an amazing community towards each other, let's share that with the victims of Hurricane Sandy!

For those in the NYC area, I, along with Damsels in Design, will be holding a donation drive Friday-Sunday to collect warm clothes, blankets, flashlights, batteries and non-perishable food to distribute to the local shelters around NYC (for a list of the shelters, you can visit http://www.nyc.gov/html/misc/html/2012/hurricane_shelters.htmlIf you can donate any of these items, please drop off these items to the ClosetDash Shop at 30 East 20th St, Suite 402 anytime Friday 11/2 or Satuday 11/3 11-7pm, or Sunday 11/4 11-2pm. We'll be renting a cargo van and delivering items in person Sunday afternoon.

For those outside the NYC Area who are looking to help, the best way is to send any type of monetary donation to one of the several listed organizations helping in the disaster recovery efforts across the East Coat. Visit the NYC Services website to find a list of accredited organizations and how to donate: http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycservice/home.html

Thank you so much!
